RAMPAGE WEEKENDER 2024 – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Published on: 3 April 2024

TEST YOUR METTLE

Gear up for the Rampage Weekend this May bank holiday weekend – it’s not for the faint of heart! Whether you’re a seasoned mud runner or a newbie, this guide has got your back. From what to wear to pre- and post-race antics, we’ve got all the tips to squash those doubts and stress. Join the ranks of the Rampage warriors who’ve survived the chaos and crossed the finish line with pride!

BEST GEAR FOR SUCCESS

Trail running or running shoes

For the Rampage, trail running shoes are like your trusty sidekick, ready to tackle anything from muddy swamps to rocky trails. They’re built for stability, and comfort, and can handle whatever terrain gets thrown your way – think hills, rivers, and those sneaky ravines. Plus, they’ll keep your feet cool and dry faster than you can say “Rampage.”

But hey, if you’re not rocking the trail shoes, don’t sweat it! Your regular running kicks will still do the trick, keeping your feet ventilated and draining water like a boss.

Just a heads up though – this isn’t a stroll in the park for your shoes. They’re gonna get a bigger beating than Rocky Balboa in all the Rocky films combined, so maybe leave the brand-new kicks from last Christmas at home. Your trainers will come out looking like they’ve been through a mud wrestling match, but hey, they should survive the ordeal with a good wash.

And please, for the love of dry socks, tie those laces tight! Trust us, you don’t wanna be finishing the race barefoot – our ponds and swamps have claimed more than one trainer!

Sports Clothing

Getting your attire right is key to conquering Rampage. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Go for snug-fitting clothes to avoid being bogged down by mud and water. Loose outfits can be a hassle, especially when wet and chilly. And hey, tighter clothes can show off those guns of yours more easily!
  • Break out those fast-drying activewear gems like Clima Cools and Dri Fits. They offer superior ventilation and dry in a flash, keeping you light on your feet.
  • Prioritise clothing that grants you a full range of motion. You’ll be twisting and turning, so go for activewear that moves with you. Some people would say you must be mad to take on Rampage, but you don’t want clothes that make you feel like you’re wearing a straitjacket.
  • Treat your feet right with socks featuring quick-drying tech. If you can’t find those, most sports socks will do the job.
  • Gloves aren’t mandatory but could provide extra grip on tricky obstacles. Look for tough, breathable options like cycling or weight-lifting gloves for added support.

Accessories

Here are some optional accessories to consider:

  • Sports Watches or FitBits: Because nothing says “I’m serious about this madness” like tracking your sprint through the mud. Just make sure your tracker is waterproof – we don’t want any tech casualties in the trenches!
  • Headbands: Keep the mud out of your eyes and the laughter in your heart with a trusty headband. Bonus points if it’s one from previous Rampage events – show off that veteran status in style!
  • Goggles: Not just for the stylish statement, but also for those epic water obstacles and Slip ‘N Slides. Embrace the splash and keep your eyes on the prize – or at least, try to amidst the chaos!
  • Armbands: Who says Rampage can’t be a fashion show? Sure, they might not serve any real purpose, but imagine the giggles you’ll get as you rock that armband like a boss. Hey, if you’re gonna conquer the course, might as well do it with flair!

For the rule-breakers and trend-setters, race day attire is your canvas! Feel free to ditch our sensible clothing tips and let your creativity shine. Whether you’re rocking as a Giant Hotdog, the Incredible Hulk, or channeling Elvis Presley, embrace the wackiness. Rampage is about more than just the run – it’s about unleashing your wild side and having fun!

PRE-RACE

Don’t be fashionably late – aim to arrive at least 45 minutes before your race time. Check your confirmation email for the exact time slot. Once you’re here, park across the road from The Jungle. Take a stroll towards the front of the car park, cross the quaint little bridge, and follow the path through the subway tunnel. This will lead you straight into the farm yard where you can register and drop off your bags at the bag drop-off if needed.

PLEASE DOWNLOAD, PRINT AND COMPLETE THE RISK ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM ATTACHED TO YOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL OR ON THE RAMPAGE WEBPAGE AND HAND IN AT REGISTRATION WHEN YOU ARRIVE. THERE WILL BE NO FORMS AVAILABLE ON THE DAY. IF YOU ARE THE GROUP ORGANISER YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD AND PASS THEM ON TO YOUR GROUP.

POST-RACE

Once you’ve conquered the Rampage Course, the post-race chill can set in quickly. Here’s what we suggest bringing along:

  1. Warm jacket or coat: Expect the unexpected in Northern Ireland’s May weather. Bring an old, cozy jacket or coat to warm up after the race – something you won’t mind getting a bit dirty.
  2. Towel: We’ve got “outdoor showers” on hand to wash off the mud. If you’re not glamping or camping, grab a towel for a comforting dry-off. Just a heads-up, there might be a short queue, so that previously mentioned jacket will come in handy while you wait.
  3. Change of clothes: No one wants to drive home in soggy, muddy attire. Pack some clean clothes for post-race comfort. Plus, if you’re sticking around for the afterparty, feel free to freshen up and glam up!
  4. Toiletries: Scrub off that grime with shower gels and shampoos. Don’t forget deodorant for the sake of those around you.
  5. Post-workout supplements: Refuel with some tasty hot food provided after the run. But if you have your own stash of energy-boosting supplements or snacks for muscle recovery, bring them along.
  6. Extra cash: We accept card payments, but having some coins on hand could be handy for the bag drop (£2 per bag). Plus, there’s a fully stocked bar at the afterparty and tasty food from our Lazy Llama restaurant.

CAMPERS

For those ready to rock the night away at our themed ‘Bright & Tight’ After Party, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Tent: Size doesn’t matter, but easy assembly is key. All tents can be set up after the runs are done – so pick one that’s hassle-free, you don’t want to be bothering with a tent after you’ve just ran a 5k mud run.
  • Airbeds/sleeping mats: The campsite’s on lush grass, but your muscles might need some extra care after the race. Opt for an airbed or sleeping mat for a comfy night’s sleep.
  • Sleeping bag: Keep cozy as the evening cools down with a trusty sleeping bag.
  • Camping chairs: Gather ’round with your fellow Rampagers for post-race debriefs and debates. Camping chairs make those discussions even more enjoyable.
  • Other camping accessories: Whatever else you need to make your camping experience top-notch – bring it along!

And don’t forget, if you’ve got the Camping ticket option, you’ll score a hot breakfast bap (sausage or bacon) between 9am and 10:30am at the Lazy Llama Restaurant. Pro tip: Grab it before 10:30am, because once it’s gone, it’s gone!
