Assistant Combat Games Manager

Role: Part-Time – 24 hours per week (possibility of becoming full-time)

This is an assistant management role. You will report to the director and senior management and will help lead a team of Instructors.

We’re looking for someone who can manage all aspects of our Combat Games activities, which currently consist of Paintball and Laser Tag, with Airsoft being added in 2020. The role will involve overseeing, planning, developing and instructing our Combat Games, with a focused approach to safety and at all times.

Most of your time will be spent outdoors, instructing Combat Games sessions. The rest of your time will be spent training staff, planning new and exciting games or battle zones, cleaning and maintaining all combat games equipment and any other duties required by senior management.

Hours: Saturday and Sundays are a must… these are the busiest hours with groups normally booking in for weekend sessions. During the summer we have evening sessions, from 5pm, as well as having group bookings throughout the week, so you may be required to work additional hours when and if necessary.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • A creative approach to planning, installing and maintaining new Combat Game concepts, games and areas. We currently have 100 acres of woodland, 9 game zones and a large reception/sheltered area in our designated Combat Games area. We wish to expand and elaborate on all of our Combat Games offerings. This will be one of the main responsibilities.
  • Directly engage with customers, remaining friendly and approachable at all times.
  • Deliver comprehensive safety briefs and instructions prior to the customer’s participation in each onsite/offsite activity and assisting their participation when necessary.
  • Attend all activity training sessions.
  • Strictly adhere to staff handbook for all activity procedures, health and safety rules and standards.
  • Check weather conditions before starting sessions, assessing hazards and managing risks.
  • Ensure all decisions are made with the needs of the customer in mind to consistently provide a high level of customer service and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that any customer feedback (complaints or compliments), stemming from your shift, is referred to a senior staff member immediately.
  • Ensure the correct handing of cash during your shift, following set procedures and ensuring that the correct amounts are collected from customers.
  • Accurately complete all end-of-day activity logs or accident reports when necessary.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness for all equipment, vehicles, toilets, reception and combat game areas. This will include picking up rubbish and washing equipment at the end of the shift.
  • Ensure you are well presented at all times and take care of your Jungle uniform.
  • Manage junior members of staff under your control.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience with Combat Games: Paintball, Laser Tag, Airsoft or similar skirmishing activities. At least one, if not all.
  • Experience leading and instructing groups.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to a diverse audience.
  • Experience in the maintenance of equipment – at least a basic level. However, training will be provided.
  • Good personal organisation skills – must demonstrate ability to plan.
  • Resourceful and proactive approach with ability to use own initiative.
  • Confident, friendly and outgoing personality.
  • Availability to work weekends and late evenings if required.
  • Applicants must be over 16 years old.

Desirable Criteria

  • Reasonable level of technical ability – to repair and maintain equipment.
  • Carpentry experience.
  • Recent First Aid qualification/training.
  • Possess own tools.
  • A good understanding of risks and how to mitigate.
  • Chainsaw experience.

Rate of pay

Above national living wage. £8.50 per hour.

Additional Information:

Must be able to work weekends and late evenings, being flexible and available for work when required.
